How to get your business found on Google in Cape Town

A plain-English guide to ranking your Cape Town business on Google, from your Google Business Profile to on-page SEO, so local customers actually find you.

When someone in Cape Town searches for what you sell, you want to be the business they find. Not the one three pages down that nobody scrolls to. Here’s how to get your business found on Google, in plain English, without needing to become an SEO expert.

Start with the map, not the website

Most local searches show a map with a few businesses at the top before any normal results. That’s the Google map pack, and for a local business it’s the most valuable spot on the page. You get in it by having a strong Google Business Profile: claimed, categorised correctly, with your real address, hours, photos, and a steady flow of reviews.

If you do nothing else this month, sort your Google Business Profile. It’s free, and it’s where most of your local visibility comes from.

Make your website say where you are

Google can’t rank you for “Cape Town” if the word never appears on your site. So your homepage and key pages should clearly say what you do and where you do it, in normal language a customer would use. Not stuffed with keywords, just clear and specific.

A few basics that matter more than people think:

  • One clear page per thing you offer, each with a plain title.
  • Your name, address, and phone number shown consistently, and matching your Google Business Profile exactly.
  • Real content that answers the questions your customers actually ask.
  • A fast, mobile-friendly site, since most local searches happen on a phone.

Reviews are ranking fuel

Reviews do two jobs. They help you rank in the map pack, and they convince the person reading them to choose you. Ask every happy customer, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to the ones you get. A steady trickle beats a once-a-year burst.

More people are asking AI assistants for recommendations instead of scrolling a results page. The good news is the same foundations help you there: a clear website, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent details, and honest reviews. Get the basics right and you show up in both places. We wrote more about that in getting found on AI search.

Getting found isn’t a trick. It’s doing the boring foundations properly, which is exactly what most businesses skip.
